Going Public: International Collectors in Sheffield

Originating from conversations between Sebastien Montabonel and Mark Doyle (previously Head of Collector Development, North – Contemporary Art Society) about the future of public collections and philanthropy, Going Public is an international art exhibition, symposium and event programme that will take place in Sheffield, UK in September-December 2015. Montabonel & Partners selected four major European art collectors and philanthropists, Dominique and Sylvain Levy, Nicolas Cattelain, Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo and Egidio Marzona will lend internationally significant works from their private collections and commission new work that will be premiered in a series of exhibitions across five venues in Sheffield: Graves Gallery, Millennium Gallery, Sheffield Cathedral, Site Gallery and Sheffield Institute of Arts at Sheffield Hallam University.

We will stay true to what we believe really matters and the exhibition will stimulate an international debate about philanthropy and the public art sector and will be complemented by a symposium and a comprehensive events and education programme that will engage a wider audience’. Sebastien Montabonel

Led by Museums Sheffield, Going Public has been developed and delivered in partnership with Sheffield Cathedral, Site Gallery and Sheffield Hallam University. The project has been supported by Arts Council England, Henry Moore Foundation, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield City Council and Montabonel & Partners, with Sebastien Montabonel acting as Curator at large.
